Research
Imperial's Faculty of Natural Sciences pioneers new ways of interrogating the natural world to further knowledge.
Our research spans multiple scales, from developing fundamental mathematical tools, to exploring unknown parts of the universe. We study the behaviour of subatomic particles and atoms, investigate molecular transformations, discover new cellular processes essential to human health, and study ecosystems to tackle global environmental challenges. We constantly push the boundaries of our understanding across disciplines and foster collaborations to tackle global multidisciplinary challenges.
Our five academic departments work in partnership with a broad range of stakeholders including industry, government and the third sector to translate our research into applications for the benefit of humanity, from developing cutting-edge medical treatments, to new technologies and policies for a more sustainable world, to leading the data revolution.
The Faculty of Natural Sciences provides a world-class research environment to train and support the next generation of scientists by exceling in our PhD training programs. Aligned with Imperial's strategy of enabling talent, we have in place support mechanisms for all our research and academic staff to realise their ambitions.
