Guidance for PhD students wishing to apply for an extended stipend as a consequence of the covid-19 pandemic

The Imperial Community wants to help you complete your degree as close to your previous timing as possible and to the same standard you have been working toward. Your local supervision team will support you in adjusting your project objectives and workplan or help you to use this time to write up results and to prepare papers and reports as well as to draft parts of your thesis. The College’s regulations have been adjusted to ensure that the COVID delays do not impede your progression steps, delaying these where necessary without penalty.

Tuition Fees

As a result of this disruption, it has been agreed that all affected research students, except those who are in their Writing Up Phase of their PhD (Completing Research Status or Writing Up Away from College) or those currently interrupted, will be entitled to an automatic registration extension period of up to 6 months.  The length of automatic registration extension will depend on the level of disruption experienced between the period Monday 16 March 2020 until (and including) Wednesday 30 September 2020.

If fees associated with registration extensions are not covered by external funders, students will not be charged additional fees for this period of automatic extension.
