What to expect
We hope that by the time you join us in autumn 2021, many of the major restrictions in place to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 will have been lifted, thanks to the vaccine rollout programme being well underway in the UK.
However, due to the unique circumstances of communal halls of residence, you should expect some COVID-19 safety guidelines to be in place when you arrive in halls. We are keeping our plans under continuous review and they are likely to develop across the 2021-22 academic year, guided by the UK Government and by our own COVID response team who have played an active role in informing national and international policy.
This page provides a summary of what to expect when you arrive in halls this autumn:
What to expect - part 1
Face coverings
We will expect you to wear a face covering in any indoor areas outside of your own bedroom and kitchen. This includes receptions, hallways, lifts and communal areas.
Households
You will be allocated a household, which will normally be comprised of your immediate neighbours. Whilst you will be free to socialise and mix between other households, you will be required to self-isolate if a member of your household becomes symptomatic and/or tests positive for COVID-19.
Self-isolation
If you or someone in your household develops symptoms or tests positive for COVID-19, you must self-isolate within your household. You may be subject to College disciplinary proceedings if you do not follow the self-isolation guidelines.
What to expect - part 2
Guests
You will be able host guests from outside of your hall of residence, although you will be required to register their arrival and departure.
Cleaning
In order to ensure a high level of hygiene across our halls of residences, we will be maintaining enhanced cleaning services throughout communal areas, including kitchens, common rooms and entrances.
Vaccination
Vaccination is free for everyone in the UK, including international students. We strongly recommend that you get vaccinated. We are awaiting further guidance on UK Government acceptance of international vaccinations.
To help protect the College community, you will be expected to take regular COVID-19 tests. Further information on the tests available to you will be provided when you arrive.
