Paying for your studies

To complete your programme successfully, you will need to commit to studying fairly intensively over a certain period of time. As a result, it may not always be in your best interests to juggle employment with full-time study.

The expectation is that no student’s paid work should impact negatively on their studies, however, part-time programmes allow some flexibility for students who have other commitments. You should discuss any concerns you might have with your programme team (e.g. with your personal tutor, course organiser or course director).

Enrolling on a programme is a commitment, and you need to be able to devote a certain amount of time and effort to it so that you can make the most of it.

International students

If you are an international student and you are in the UK on a Tier 4 student visa, please make yourself familiar with the conditions of your visa. Students with a valid Student visa are permitted to work up to 20 hours per week during term time, and full-time during vacation times, including the time between the end of your course and the end of your student visa (up to a maximum of four months).

Knowing your fees and other costs

Before committing to a programme, it is vital that you understand what your fees are, and consider how you will support yourself while studying, including the cost of living in London, accommodation and fees.

Seeking employment whilst you study can be difficult and time-consuming. If you feel you are able to commit to part-time work without it impacting on your studies, our Careers Service runs sector-specific careers fairs throughout the year to help you meet Imperial students and recent graduates.
