Support over the College closure

From Friday 24 December until Tuesday 4 January the College will be closed for business - except for the College services detailed above. Whilst our services are closed for a short time, you can still contact them via email and a member of staff will be in touch as soon as possile when the College reopens on Tuesday 4 January.

If you would like to speak to some about something that is bothering you when the College is closed, there are several specialist support lines which are open and available to you as a student.

General support

Student Minds are offering one-to-one support for whatever challenge you're facing. Whether it's your mental wellbeing, your studies, money, housing or relationships, you can reach out to one of their trained volunteers for free and confidential support.

If you are suffering from stress, anxiety or low mood, you can use the NHS Moodzone self-assessment tool to understand how you've been feeling and what you can do.

Mental health crisis

If you need immediate help to stay safe – especially if you think you might act on suicidal thoughts, or you've harmed yourself and need urgent medical attention dial 999 or go to your nearest Accident and Emergency Department.

There are a number of organisations who can support you if you are experiencing a mental health crisis:

The Counselling and Mental Health Advice Service have compiled a list of support lines which are open and available to you if you are in crisis. You can access the list of support lines here.

Sexual violence support

If you have been raped or sexually assaulted you can contact a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) who will be able to offer you specialst support.

The Havens are a service for women, men and children who have been raped or sexually assaulted within the last 12 months. It is free and confidential and offers different services under one roof, including: special support for young people, examinations to collect evidence of rape or sexual assault and testing for sexually transmitted infections and HIV.

You can make an appointment at the Haven that is best for you:

  • Camberwell Haven, near to King’s College Hospital (south)
  • Whitechapel Haven, near to Royal London Hospital (east)
  • Paddington Haven, near to St Mary’s Hospital (west)

For more information on the support available at the College, visit our sexual violence support pages.

Health and wellbeing

We know that some of you might be unwell over the Christmas period, either due to COVID-19 or with another health issue. If you are in the UK and you are unwell and need medical advice you can contact the following services.

  • The NHS has information online about how to look after yourself at home if you have COVID-19. If you have tested positive you should read these pages.
  • If you have COVID-19 symptoms and you feel they are worsening, the advice is to firstly read and use the online NHS 111 service.
  • If prompted, or if the online service does not answer your questions you can call the NHS 111 service simply by dialling 111 on your mobile or landline.
  • If you have a non-COVID related illness you can use the above 111 service or call your GP (doctor) to ask for advice and make a telephone appointment. Information about GPs can be found on our health pages.

If you have COVID-19 you should not present yourself to an in-person treatment centre (such as your GP, Accident & Emergency, your local hospital) unless prompted to do so by a health professional. If you are worried about your symptoms it is always best to speak to someone via the 111 service.
