Internal Support
Sexual Violence Liaison Officers (SVLOs)
Who are the SVLOs? The five SVLOs are Imperial staff who work in different departments and services across the College. They have received specialist training to support students who have experienced sexual violence. They are not counsellors but will listen to you and can help you access the right support and information. See the Meet the Sexual Violence Liaison Team for more information about team members.
If you contact the College's Sexual Violence Liaison Team, your SVLO will provide you with 1-2-1 support and will help you access resources so you can make an informed decision about your next steps.

How can a Sexual Violence Liaison Officer help me? Your SVLO can support you regardless of whether sexual violence happened on or off-campus, or whether the violence is recent or in the past. With your agreement, they can help you with things such as:
- Referrals to counselling and medical services both inside and outside the College
- Discussions with the relevant College services with regards to academic adjustments and/or accommodation arrangements
- Understanding the reporting options available to you
- Navigating systems and resources within the university and community
What about confidentiality? Your SVLO will handle your disclosure confidentially and will respect any decisions you make. Contacting an SVLO doesn't mean that you will be required to report an assault to the police or make a formal complaint to the College, although they will support you in doing so if you want to.
Only in these very exceptional circumstances will confidentiality be broken, and direct action taken: where there is serious risk to your safety or that of someone else, under our legal obligation in relation to terrorism and radicalisation or safeguarding matters. Wherever possible this would be discussed with you first. For more information on confidentiality, please see our SVLO Privacy Statement (PDF) for full details of our obligations under the General Data Protection Regulation 2018.
