We have a fantastic line-up of speakers and topics, including special guest Sir Mark Walport, technical colleagues involved in the White City project, Imperial's President Professor Hugh Brady, and a session on innovation from the Grantham Institute. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

These sessions have been designed to brief staff on the Annual Review Conversation (ARC) process. ARC replaces the PRDP process, and this briefing session will provide a step-by-step overview of the new process and your responsibilities as a line manager. The staff sessions will help appraisees to understand better and prepare for ARC.
It is an opportunity to learn about the ARC process and understand the core principles that will help guide you. The session is designed to be informative, a chance to ask questions and know the various support available to you.
By the end of this course, participants will:
- Have knowledge of the ARC process end-to-end.
- Have clarity on their responsibilities throughout the ARC process.
- Know where to go for additional tools and support relating to the ARC process.
The Imperial STAR Framework
Introduction to the Imperial STAR Framework: Gaining professional recognition for teaching or supporting learning

This session is for technical staff at any level who are either involved directly in some form of learning and teaching or who support learning and teaching practices and processes. Mark will introduce technicians to the process of gaining accredited professional recognition for your education-related practice through the STAR Imperial Framework.
STAR is the College's programme for supporting Imperial teaching staff (or staff who support learning and teaching practices and processes) to develop a successful application for an appropriate category of Fellowship – an internationally-recognised form of professional recognition. You will have a chance to explore the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) and start mapping out the links between your practice and the professional standards. You'll go away with a clearer idea of the appropriate category of Fellowship for your current level of experience, the range of support available to you, and how to get started with your Fellowship application.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Describe the STAR Framework and the Professional Standards Framework.
- Select the appropriate Fellowship category for you.
- Map your teaching practice against the PSF.
- Start developing your application in an appropriately reflective and scholarly style.
Sustainable Science & Green Labs
Thursday, 13 July 2023, 13.00 – 16.00 (in person) - Book your place
Delivered by Martin Farley, Green Lab Associates (on behalf of HEaTED) and tailored to the needs of technical staff in universities.
The aim of this course is to increase awareness of laboratory sustainability and provide tips, advice and solutions for effective practice. It has been designed to accommodate various learning styles and to allow participants to learn from theory and practice, group discussions and individual reflection.
The course will explore:
- Sustainability in Science: Why this is relevant to climate change.
- Laboratory Emissions Review: assessing the balance between buildings, equipment, consumables, and travel and comparing to non-scientific sectors.
- Hotspot areas such as plastics and consumables, equipment (including freezers), waste and recycling, carbon impacts of research and research quality, and water usage.
- Engagement: how to engage your peers and institution on sustainable labs.
- LEAF and Resources: what tools exist to help you on your journey?
