What is STAR?

The STAR Framework is Imperial's pathway to applying for fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, facilitated by the Educational Development Unit. STAR has been designed to reward and recognise those at Imperial who can demonstrate an ongoing commitment to developing their professional practice in teaching within higher education. STAR provides the opportunity to apply free of charge for Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy at Associate, Fellow or Senior Fellow level depending on the range and depth of your teaching experiences. The STAR Framework not only applies to academic staff, but also to the various other clinical teachers, support staff and graduate teaching assistants who are vital in teaching and supporting our students.

What is HEA Fellowship?

The Higher Education Academy (HEA) is a national body that supports the higher education community in order to enhance the quality and impact of learning and teaching. Achieving Fellowship will help you to demonstrate your commitment to best practice in teaching and potentially progress your career in this area. HEA Fellowship is an international recognition of a commitment to professionalism in teaching and learning in higher education and demonstrates that your practice is aligned with the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF). To date over 65,000 individuals have become Fellows of the HEA.

If you are interested in applying for HEA Fellowship, we recommend that you:

  1. Attend a STAR introductory workshop
  2. Write an application and attend individual support sessions
  3. Attend a STAR pre-submission workshop with a complete draft application
  4. Submit your application
