Active learning encompasses and promotes various techniques and activities which can be used to actively involve the student in the learning process. This four-part blended learning course is designed to introduce staff to the basic theories and principles underlying active learning, as well as to the considerations involved in (and practical suggestions for) incorporating active learning strategies into their curriculum.

Who should attend?

The course will be particularly useful for those involved in activities around curriculum review, mapping and innovation who wish to gain further insight into educational theory and practice.

Please note that this course is spread over several weeks and will involve attendance at all four of the three-hour face-to-face sessions (see dates in the box on the right hand side of this page) as well as participation in a series of online learning activities. The anticipated commitment will be 16 hours for the whole course. No prior teaching qualifications are required to attend.

All staff are welcome to attend, however Teaching Fellows, Lecturers and those involved in Curriculum Review and pedagogical transformation will get priority.

Imperial STAR Framework

This course is aligned with the UKPSF and may be helpful to those looking to apply for fellowship of the Higher Education Academy through the STAR Framework in helping to identify and reflect upon examples of good practice.
