Introduction to teaching for learning

Designed for new non-clinical educators, lecturers and teaching fellows. It is intended for staff who are beginning to teach undergraduate and/or postgraduate students at Imperial.

Introduction to supervising PhD students at Imperial

Designed for academic staff from across the College who formally supervise research students. Some parts of the workshop are relevant to supervising Masters projects and dissertations, but the focus is on the PhD.

Introduction to personal tutoring

Designed for staff who are (or will soon be) personal tutors, this workshop helps new tutors prepare themselves for this important role and provides them with information and techniques to equip them to support their tutees.

*NB These workshops normally form part of College's probationary requirements. There may also be additional Faculty requirements. There is more information in the For new lecturers section, however if you are unsure what applies to you, you should check with your mentor, line manager or appropriate Faculty Administrator.

Introduction to assessment for active learning

Designed for staff who teach and assess students through tests, quizzes, coursework that carry a grade (summatively) but also assess them on a day to day basis without any grade consequences (formatively).

Introduction to Blackboard Learn

This session is an introduction to Blackboard Learn, the Imperial College’s virtual learning environment (VLE). It is designed for academics and support staff who are responsible for creating and managing content using Blackboard Learn.

Introduction to making teaching more inclusive

Designed for new and experienced staff to consider how inclusive their teaching is of all learners and to explore how they can best facilitate inclusive teaching and learning across the whole range of their work.

Introduction to team-based learning (TBL)

Designed to prepare staff to plan and facilitate team-based learning within their undergraduate or postgraduate programmes.

Introduction to technologies for teaching and learning

Designed for staff who wish to discover how technologies could enhance their teaching or support for learners, within both classroom settings and online environments.

**NB These workshops may form part of Faculty probationary requirements, but are open to all.

Introduction to feedback for formative assessment in FoM

Designed for staff who are new to teaching or those who wish to review their existing methods of assessing and providing feedback to learners.

Introduction to teaching and learning in the FoM

Designed for academic and NHS staff who are new to teaching Faculty of Medicine students, or who have not attended teaching and learning workshops before.

Introduction to teaching in clinical settings

Designed for NHS staff who are inexperienced in teaching undergraduate medical students in clinical settings, and for those who have not attended comparable teaching and learning workshops before.
