Who should attend?
This introductory, online workshop is designed for Imperial College staff who are new to teaching Faculty of Medicine students, or who have not attended teaching and learning workshops before. It explores the relationships between teaching and learning and introduces participants to standard ways of structuring teaching and actively engaging learners: including online. It examines the strengths and weaknesses - from the perspective of learning - of lectures and various types of small and large group teaching. The workshop has been adapted for online delivery and addresses the same intended learning outcomes as the face-to-face workshop.
Please note that this workshop requires attendance at a 2-hour ‘live’ session (as per the specified time and date details) along with one hour of asynchronous work to be completed in the week before this and one hour to be completed in the week following it. You are required to participate in all three parts in order to complete the workshop.
Staff who are mainly involved in teaching in clinical settings will probably find the Introduction to teaching in clinical settings workshop more suitable for their needs. Staff who are interested in developing their feedback skills should attend the Introduction to feedback and formative assessment in the Faculty of Medicine workshop. If you are unsure about which workshop to attend, please do not hesitate to contact us.
NB Teaching and Learning in the Faculty of Medicine has considerable overlap with Introduction to teaching for learning. We recommend only attending one of these. If you are unsure about which option is best for you please contact us.
If you are primarily working teaching within a clinical context then you may find Introduction to teaching in clinical settings more suited to your needs. If you are interested in developing strategies and techniques for providing effective feedback, please book onto the Introduction to feedback and formative assessment workshop.
