Who should attend?

This workshop is designed for staff who teach students and provide feedback on their progress and performance, for example, feedback on class quizzes, lab practicals, coursework, draft essays and online self-tests. In particular, this workshop is for staff who are new to teaching, and for those who want to review their existing ways of providing feedback.

The session addresses a range of issues related to feedback, that is: effectiveness of different modes of feedback, student expectations from feedback, approaches to giving feedback and encouraging students to engage fully make use of feedback.

This workshop is intended to complement the A practical guide to setting and marking assessments workshop and Introduction to assessment for learning workshop. These three assessment-related workshops are meant to be complementary; attending all of them is not compulsory but is worthwhile if you are involved in both formative and summative assessment. A more advanced Focus on programme-level assessment design workshop is also available for staff with responsibilities for entire modules or programmes.

NB This workshop has considerable overlap with Introduction to Feedback and formative assessment in the Faculty of Medicine which is specifically designed for those working in the Faculty of Medicine. Duplicating attendance at these workshops is likely to be unrewarding.
