Students playing basketball

Life at Imperial is about more than getting good grades.

We encourage all our students to get involved in life on campus. Activities help to settle into their new life at university life and make new friends. Participation also helps develop a diverse CV that showcases their potential to future employers.

What can they get involved in?

Societies and clubs at Imperial explained

Our Students' Union has over 380 clubs, societies and projects for students to join. It's one of the largest selections of any UK university.

They play a big part in enriching the social, cultural and educational experiences of our students, as well as being an outlet for them to try new activities, meet new people and have fun away from their studies.

Open to everyone, they cover almost every activity you can think of, including:

  • sports and martial arts
  • arts, music and entertainment, including a student-run cinema
  • charitable
  • student media, including a student-run newspaper, TV station and radio station
  • social and recreational
  • cultural
  • academic and departmental
  • outdoor activities, including caving, gliding and canoeing

Welcome Fair will introduce students to Imperial and a Summer Ball ends the year in style.

Sport Imperial

Ethos is the College’s flagship sports centre.

It’s situated right at the heart of our South Kensington campus, making it easy to stay active all year round.

Facilities include squash courts and a 9-metre high climbing wall – which are of such a high standard that they sometimes play host to professional sports teams.

Year-round fitness classes and regular sports events are just some of the options available to keep your child active.

Move Imperial also has facilities available for students at other locations across our campuses.

The arts

Music studentArtistic or musical students are well catered for at Imperial, with options including:

We offer language classes and other humanities courses that all undergraduates can take, either alongside their degree or for credit, through our Imperial Horizons programme. These include modules on business skills, global challenges, culture and society.

Volunteering and religion

Volunteering

Volunteering is a fantastic way to develop valuable skills and knowledge that can enhance employability while also providing a deep sense of achievement.

There is a wide range of opportunities available in the UK and abroad and we encourage all our students to get involved.

Faith and worship

The Chaplaincy Multi-Faith Centre provides access to Chaplains and Faith Advisors from different faith backgrounds who can provide confidential support on welfare issues.

Resources are provided for students of all faiths. These include information about places of worship and the use of the multi-faith prayer room, meeting room and library.
