"We have these Year Abroad parties on the 8th floor of Blackett. They're nice events where you can talk to your coordinators, language teachers and Erasmus students over food and drinks. The Erasmus students told me that when you speak a foreign language in another country every day your sense of humour simplifies and your personality changes. I can't wait to see this firsthand."

Whilst you are abroad, keep in regular e-mail contact with your Physics Co-ordinator, Amy Cripps-Mahajan and where appropriate with the Academic Co-ordinator or Academic Visitor.

Before departure, contact the local co-ordinator with your arrival details and arrange to meet

- Students move abroad to host institution

- Local intensive language course (students studying in America are exempt from this)
- Arrange and agree lecture courses and project

Feedback
Over the academic year at the European and International university students are provided with feedback that focuses on two main strands:
- Project – feedback on students’ projects is provided in several stages by two markers. The initial feedback by the first marker comments on the strengths and weaknesses of the project’s report. It also provides suggestions on improvements the student can make. Academic visitors from Imperial College London visit students in spring to discuss the project synopsis and advise on the remaining project work. Students subsequently receive formal written feedback on their project from both markers in October of the following academic year.
- Examinations - Year Abroad students take exams at the end of each module, over the entire year in Europe course. Students receive exam feedback directly from the local university teaching staff. These examinations provide summative assessment to evaluate student learning and achievement over the entire year at the host university.
The Physics Department does not currently provide access to exam scripts.

Year 4 Returners are vital to the success of our Exchanges Programme! Many of you help to run the Erasmus Club. Your contacts at departmental parties and elsewhere with less senior Year Abroad students and with Visiting Students are invaluable for passing on information and helping them gain confidence. Moreover, one of you is elected as the Year Abroad rep, to speak for all Year Abroad students and Visiting/Erasmus students.
