Professor John Tsamopoulos
The Department is delighted to welcome Professor John Tsamopoulos (Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Patras) as a Visiting Nelder Fellow in the Mathematics Department, the Centre for Computational Methods in Science and Engineering, and the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College. Professor Tsamopoulos will be delivering a series of lectures as follows.
Lecture 1: Thursday 19 May 10:00-12:00, Huxley 139
Introduction to complex fluids
Abstract: This is an introductory lecture suitable for a general audience and will present fluid dynamics phenomena of complex fluids along with different models.
Lecture 2: Friday 20 May, 16:00-17:00, Huxley 139
Motion of rigid and deformable particles in complex fluids
(Part of the Fluid Dynamics seminar series)
Abstract: Resolving two old and intriguing problems.
Lecture 3: Tuesday 24 May, 10:00-12:00, Huxley 139
Thin film flow over sharp topography
Abstract: I. Transient coating flow leading to Cassie, Wenzel and intermediate states.
II. Steady flow with and without air inclusions inside the trench.
Lecture 4: Thursday 26 May, 10:00-12:00, Huxley 139
Presentations by IC researchers.
Abstract: Discussion and collaborative plans.
