We hold an annual Away Day for the Wellcome students where all PhD students give talks outlining their project and where they see it going. We finish the event with drinks and food, and with champagne prizes for the best talks. In May 2013, we held the Away Day at Kew Gardens. Apart from excellent talks we took advanatge of the good weather to explore the gardens during lunchtime. The day was finished off in The Botanist pub with champagne prizes for the best talks (thanks Murray!) and some pub grub. We repeated this in May 2014; this time we were joined by representives from the Wellcome Trust who were able to talk with the students and obtain their views on how the programme meets their expectations.
