The REACT programme is made up of four different research programmes related to COVID-19 in England:
Each month over 150,000 randomly selected people across England are sent a nose/throat swab test to take at home. The helps us understand how many people are currently infected with the coronavirus, including those are aren't showing symptoms.

Our REACT-2 study looked at how many people already had COVID-19 and developed antibodies against the virus. A number of different studies assessed the accuracy and usability of different antibody tests. These were then used to enhance our understanding of the spread of COVID-19 across England.
REACT GE is looking for biological ‘signatures’, such as molecules in the blood or variations in people’s genes, that could help explain why some infected individuals experience serious illness while others don’t.
REACT Long COVID will involve more than 120,000 people to better understand why some people who are infected with the coronavirus have symptoms for several weeks or even months – a condition called Long COVID – while others don’t.
The REACT Children and Young People study involves follow-up of over 10,000 children aged 5-17 years to investigate socio-demographic factors affecting why some children get Long COVID and others don’t, and the impact of Long COVID.
