Clinical Trials
Clinical trials are used to understand disease mechanisms and evaluate novel or current treatment options for musculoskeletal disorders. Including the impact of treatment on patient quality of life and the health economy. Clinical trials in the MSk lab include:
- Multicentre clinical trials of CE marked devices such as the Furlong Evolution® Hip Trial with centres around the UK
- Trials investigating the difference in gait patterns between different kinds of hip and knee arthroplasties
- An investigation of movement in people with Joint Hypermobility Syndrome. Do they move differently?
- An Investigation of Lumbar Spinal Nerves
The trials are used to evaluate novel treatments, implants and surgical techniques designed in the laboratory environment in a clinical setting: ‘from bench to bed’. As well as assess the incidence and impact of complications or side-effects in order to reproduce, understand and address them in the lab environment: ‘from bed to bench’.
