Head of Unit - Professor Myra McClure

Since the academic Department of Genitourinary Medicine (GUM) was founded in 1992, Professor McClure has worked with GUM physicians and Paediatricians to provide clinical virology assays, even before the introduction of these assays as commercial kits. They have included the diagnosis of paediatric HIV infection, quantitation of HIV viral load and Mycoplasma genitalium, HIV, HBV and HCV genotyping, as well as the development of highly sensitive serological assays for Chlamydia trachomatis. 

Deputy Head of Unit - Professor Graham Taylor

Graham Taylor leads on HTLV and SARS-CoV-2 molecular diagnostics as well as his clinical role in the National Centre for Human Retrovirology, the national referral centre for HTLV infection diagnosis, investigation, management and clinical research.
