Transforming medical education through research
In the Faculty of Medicine we pride ourselves on providing educational experiences and programmes which are evidence-based and underpinned by the latest educational research. As well as having a large number of teachers and programme designers with formal postgraduate qualifications in education, we have a growing number who are active education researchers in their own right.
Our current fields of educational research activity in the Faculty of Medicine and our partner NHS Trusts include:
- development of new assessment methods
- peer-assisted learning
- technology enhanced learning
- sustainability in healthcare education
- support of underrepresented groups
- coaching for health education

Clinical Teaching Fellow Programme
MERU set up a network for Clinical Teaching Fellows (CTFs) to support their professional educational development and delivers a package of professional educational development activities. Three core workshops are accredited by the Academy of Medical Educators at MAcadMEd professional standards. Over the last two years, 40 CTFs have successfully completed the programme. Four advanced workshops on academic practice in medical education further extends educational skills. Many of our CTFs have published educational research in peer-reviewed journals or at international conferences.
