Clinical Teaching Fellow Programme
Imperial College London offers educational professional development to Clinical Teaching Fellows and Clinical Educators through a series of workshops and associated assignments. The core series of workshops have been accredited by the Academy of Medical Educators at their level 2 Professional Standards (MAcadMedEd), and the advanced series are mapped to their level 3 standards in the educational research & scholarship domain (FAcadMedEd).
These workshops are provided free internally to Imperial College’s associated clinical teachers, and for a per-person fee externally to Healthcare Trusts looking for professional development that is targeted to educators in the clinical workplace. Please contact MERU@imperial.ac.uk to discuss external provision.
The course starts in August so that Clinical Teaching Fellows are ready to welcome medical students onsite at the start of the academic year. The core course finishes in November allowing most participants to attain their MAcadMedEd in time for ongoing specialty job applications in the new year. The advanced workshops are timed to support clinical educators in researching their educational practice with a view to writing up and/or presenting at conferences over the summer before they move on to their next placement.
Assessment is by portfolio, which includes some directed assignments to ensure the course learning objectives are met, but is otherwise curated by the owner to evidence their attainment and progression against the values and standards of AoME, supported by regular review and feedback from peers and faculty.
