Overview

The bariatric short courses consisting of Obesity Medicine and Bariatric Surgery are held at St Mary’s Campus in Paddington. The aim is to provide the knowledge and skills to assess and manage the overweight and obese patient (Obesity Medicine) and for delegates to gain a practical and theoretical understanding of the surgical treatment of morbid obesity (Bariatric Surgery).

Who are the courses aimed at

Both courses welcome surgeons, surgeons in training, healthcare practitioners, physiotherapists, nurses, dietitians and nutritionists, multidisciplinary support staff involved in the care and treatment of the obese patient and students of healthcare practice.

Themes, teaching and study options

The overall theme for both courses is surgical innovation, covering multiple topics in the following domains; epidemiology, management, service, technical, quality of care, and Medico-legal aspects of obesity management for safe practice in the UK and globally.  Teaching is delivered in lectures and practical workshops.

Attendees can opt to take part in one or both courses academically and complete an Assessment of their learning.  On successful completion of the assessed assignments, attendees receive a Transcript of Results from Imperial College London.  If an assessment isn’t required, attendees should opt for the Certificate of attendance.
