Training the next generation of clinical scientists in Experimental Medicine

The Translational Medicine Training (TMT) Fellowship Programme at Imperial College, funded by the Wellcome Trust and GlaxoSmithKline, is designed to train the next generation of clinical scientists in Experimental Medicine.

A central theme is the development and application of new tools of clinical investigation to test hypotheses about human pathophysiology and evaluate new treatments in vivo. Because of the high density of state-of-the-art PET and MRI equipment at the Hammersmith Campus, there is a strong emphasis on the use of clinical imaging.

Clinical Fellows will be based at the Hammersmith Campus and benefit from:  

  • The internationally renowned academic environment of Imperial College.
  • NIHR - Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility.
  • The Imanova clinical imaging centre.
  • High-throughput platforms for genomics and metabolomics.
  • Computational science.

Imaging

The TMT programme aims to teach researchers to use new tools of clinical investigation to test hypotheses about human pathophysiology in vivo. Through collaboration with the Imanova Clinical Imaging Centre (CIC), the UK’s best equipped clinical research imaging centre, there is a strong emphasis on the use of imaging within the TMT programme.

Your project

Projects from all medical disciplines are considered. The programme provides opportunities in experimental medicine, the development and evaluation of novel therapies, biomarker development and stratified medicine in neuroscience, mental health and areas of medicine including clinical immunology, infectious disease, endocrinology, cardiovascular and respiratory medicine and oncology. Successful recruits to the programme will have the opportunity to match a project suitable to their medical career goals, to be undertaken during a three-year PhD. Tuition fees, research consumables and salary will all be funded by the scheme.

Over the course of the programme, fellows have the opportunity to participate in the active seminar series and structured teaching modules developed specifically to meet their needs.
