Molecular Virology
Headed by Professor Wendy Barclay, the Section plays a leading role in research in virology and cell biology. Virology undergraduate teaching is provided by this Section and we also host the successful MSc in Molecular Biology and Pathology of Viruses.
Our virology research ranges from structural and molecular biology, mechanisms of viral pathology and genetic predisposition to infection, through to clinical models and human diseases. Our section also runs a series of Molecular Virology seminars.
We regret to announce the recent death of Dr Marcus Dorner, Senior Lecturer in this Section. Read More

Head of Molecular Virology
Professor Wendy Barclay's research focuses on respiratory viruses, particularly influenza virus. Her studies aim to understand the molecular and cellular basis of the pathogenesis, host range restrictions and transmissibility of influenza viruses.
