Tuberculosis research is a core activity in the Section. The focus goes from bench to bedside and includes research in the areas of:

- Genomics
- MDR-TB
- Mathematical modelling
- Molecular epidemiology
- Low-cost diagnostics
- Public health.
- Migrant health

In addition to research on the Imperial Hammersmith campus, there are active programmes in Peru (led by Carlton Evans and involving Jon Friedland and Gwenan Knight) in conjunction with Universidad Cayetano Heredia Peruana and Johns Hopkins University USA and in Eastern Europe (led by Francis Drobniewski) with other active collaborations in Africa and Asia.
