Infectious Diseases and Immunity

The Section of Infectious Diseases and Immunity is driven by high quality, world leading innovative research with a strong translational component. The Section focuses on four main areas, namely antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and healthcare-associated infection (HCAI), tuberculosis, Gram- positive infections and lung immunology. The Section is active within two Imperial Health Protection Research Units in HCAI and AMR Respiratory Infections and has strong collaborations with Public Health England. It is also the home of the International Health Unit. The Section is based in modern facilities including the state of the art category 2 and category 3 pathogen containment laboratories. Senior staff members have diverse collaborative links across the world.

The Section of Infectious Diseases and Immunity has a strong profile in the area of clinical and non-clinical education in infection, teaching both undergraduates and postgraduates. It is the home of the popular MSc in Molecular Medicine. Many PhD students including a large number of Wellcome Trust and MRC Clinical Research Training Fellows are based in the Section. We also welcome a range of BSc, MSc and other project students. The Section operates in close liaison with the clinical infection service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, with many dual appointments across Imperial College and the Trust.
