Bridging E-Textile Sensor Design and Signal Processing
Abstract
Through the use of electronic textiles (e-textiles), a fabric can sense when it is stretched or pressed. However, the electrical performance of these e-textile sensors is imperfect, limiting their usefulness. This project investigates how to improve the signals generated by these inexpensive and easy-to-construct sensors: What signal processing algorithms can be applied to overcome these problems and enable these sensors to be integrated into smart clothing? How can their performance be optimised through textile design? Importantly, how can those algorithms/textile design recommendations be packaged into tools that designers and creative technologists could use in their own design and prototyping work?
