As part of the STEM Club Champions programme, there are several workshops that schools can take part in, each designed to support teachers in establishing and developing successful STEM clubs.

STEM Club Workshops

Designed for new club leaders, its purpose is to generate confidence in new and potential club leaders and guide them through setting up a club and the first 18 months.

Designed for more experienced club leaders of established clubs 18 months and older, it focuses on how to sustain the STEM Club, keep it vibrant and thriving.

A session to promote opportunities for club leaders to learn how to incorporate and enhance careers knowledge and employability skills for students within club sessions and help support the schools careers awareness agenda.

A workshop to help club leaders measure the benefits and impact that clubs have on students, club leaders and the school and how this can support the STEM curriculum.

The workshops, while designed for STEM Clubs, will provide schools with knowledge they can utilise within curricular learning, adding an extra benefit for all who attend.

The benefits of setting up a STEM Club

people sitting around a table at a training dayWith the UK STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) sector facing a growing skills shortage, STEM clubs will help to raise young people’s engagement and enthusiasm for STEM subjects at school, and encourage a sense that STEM is for them. The clubs provide a space where young people can explore topics and concepts that interest them, and can develop their understanding and awareness of various STEM careers.

In addition to the benefits for students, STEM clubs can hugely benefit schools and teachers:

  • Improving STEM subject knowledge.
  • Improving teacher’s motivation and confidence to teach STEM subjects.
  • Enhancing STEM teaching with more real-world examples and applications.
  • Strengthening teacher’s commitments to teaching.
  • Raising the profile of STEM subjects within your school.
  • Improving inter-departmental working.
  • Increasing the school’s standing within the local community.
  • Increasing awareness of the benefits of enrichment activities in school.
  • Improving links with STEM employers.

STEM Learning is the largest provider of STEM education and careers support in the UK, running a core programme that supports STEM Clubs in schools, FE colleges and sixth forms.
