Background & Experience:
Stefanie’s academic background is in social science and communications and she holds a diploma in Learning & Development from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Having worked in Higher Education institutions in the UK and internationally, she has extensive experience in designing and delivering professional development programmes and is truly passionate about supporting early career researchers to excel in their chosen career path.
Stefanie is a qualified senior and executive-level coach and mentor. In her current role, she specialises in enhancing leadership and management capability for postdocs and fellows, 1:1 career coaching, CV clinics and interview training.

Job Summary:
Head of the Centre providing strategic leadership and direction to the support and development of postdocs and fellows at Imperial.

Background and Experience:
Liz has worked in Higher Education for the whole of her career. She has a PhD in Glacial Geomorphology and Geomorphology and postdoc work in magnetostratography. She first became interested in the training and development of researchers during her first postdoc. Since then she has worked at Heriot Watt University, Head of Academic Staff Development at Cambridge University and has been at Imperial for nearly 10 years. In 2015 she was awarded the Dame Julia Higgins Medal for ‘outstanding support for female early career researchers and academics’.
In 2017 she published a book – ‘What every postdoc needs to know’ with two researcher development colleagues. They have been commissioned to write a second book ‘What every woman needs to know to progress in Higher Education’

  • Provides bespoke support via 1:1 meetings and mock interviews
  • Runs Welcome Lunches for new postdocs and fellows to Imperial

Background & Experience:
Karen gained her PhD in Structural Biology from the University of York, before joining a research institute affiliated with McGill University, Canada.  Two years later she returned to the UK to undertake a three-year Research Associate position at the University of Warwick.
Whilst carrying out her research into antimicrobials, she set up her departmental reps community and was an active member of several committees; particularly during their successful Athena Swan application. In addition, she established a thriving Woman in Science series of events which highlighted the many different career options that are available to researchers.
She is passionate about helping early-career researchers reach their full potential.  Over the last four years, she has achieved this by developing a range of tailored training and support for postdocs and fellows from across the College.  She also works closely with departments through the PFDC Reps Network.  Karen is a qualified Springboard trainer and an MBTI Practitioner.

Background & Experience

Cameron gained an undergraduate degree in History at Brunel University. Before working for the PFDC he worked in a Training Management and coordination position at a safety consultancy where he organised and tutored a range of courses for people in the hospitality industry.

Background & Experience:
Ines has experience in postdoc development and support as a previous member of the Researcher Association at the Royal Veterinary College, London. She completed her PhD in Biomedical Sciences in Portugal before moving to the UK to pursue a Postdoc working with mammalian bone cell activity.

She is now focused in using her skills to support postdoc staff in their development through training delivery and individual support, and help them achieve their goals and vision both in and outside academia.

Background & Experience:
Anna spent twelve years working in Japanese further and higher education, including a pioneering initiative preparing Japanese graduates for work in international organisations. Her PhD used communities of practice theory to research education and self-development in a classical Japanese martial art. Anna Seabourne is passionate about researcher development and has postgraduate qualifications in education, coaching, library and information science, and leadership and management. She has worked in a variety of academic related professional service roles in UK Higher Education. She enjoys exploring innovative technology and the ways in which it can enhance research and lifelong professional development.
