Project review
This project involved the creation of new Quantum Physics laboratories of approx. 220sqm over two floors within the basement of the Blackett Building for a Quantum Physics research group.
The fit out works involved the install of a new mezzanine floor and strengthening of an existing section of mezzanine floor along with a new internal staircase. Creation of a new plantroom with new services including a new AHU, which was required to be cantilevered from the wall and not be floor mounted in order to minimise risk of vibrations impacting research in the labs below, along with new Denco air conditioning units in the optical research rooms with ventilation socks to minimise air movement within the research labs. A new equipment room was also formed to provide support services including processed chilled water for the research labs.
Key Design Features
- Install of new mezzanine floor to create additional lab space within the available area, along with new internal staircase
- Creation of a double height end user equipment room
- Provision of close control air conditioning within optical table research rooms.
- Provision of secondary support grids for end user equipment to be fixed to above and around optical research tables.
- Creation of a new ICT CWC room
- Provision of specialist lab gases to support research requirements.
