Dania Ahmed

PhD student, Department of Mechanical Engineering

"Since a young age, my eagerness to support the people around drove me to step to leading positions throughout my academic life. I believe in the fact that “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”

"Paving my way in a globally male dominant field, I commit myself to empower women in mechanical engineering. Running a couple of workshops for high-school female students in Sudan, encouraging them to join mechanical engineering, is one of my pride achievements.

"Joining Imperial college placed me among the top researchers in my field. I am enjoying a rich experience that will promote both my career and personality. Here, I have been elected as a departmental representative in the student union, reflecting the postgraduate students’ feedback and issues.

"My advice to the current students is to believe in your unlimited potential, be passionate about your work and achieve your best. As Mandela said, 'It is always impossible, until it’s done.' I always believe that women born as leaders; they need to recognize their inner power and support each other."
