What comes to mind when you think of Italy? Great art? Tasty food? Roman civilization? Or maybe ice cream and fast cars.

This exciting course is an exploration of some of the many contributions Italy has made to Western civilization. Journeying around land-mark periods in Italian history, we will look at the creativity and social, cultural and political enterprise of Italy, from the Roman period to the present day.

While the glories of some Italian art are better-known, there is much to discover about Italy’s flair for design and technology, as well as modern art movements, cinema, art and architecture.

From the first racing cars to stream-lined domestic appliances, from high fashion to a major contribution to world cuisine including gelato!), this course will open-up new perspectives and inspire students to explore Italy for themselves.
