Monitoring of high cycle thermal fatigue and temperature gradients
High cycle thermal fatigue is a common issue in nuclear power plants and can lead to cracking and lack of containment. Due to the poor thermal conductivity of stainless steels it is impossible to measure the rapid temperature gradients across a pipe wall that cause the cracking. In this project we research the use of an ultrasonic method to measure the wall temperature gradient without require access to the inside of the a pipe.
