About the MSk MEC

The Musculoskeletal Medical Engineering Centre (MSk MEC) brings together researchers from across Imperial College London focussed on the discovery and application of new technologies to improve the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, such as osteoarthritis. The MSk MEC is one of the eight Imperial Centres and Networks of Excellence affiliated to the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (IBME). 

Formerly the Centre for Medical Engineering Solutions in Osteoarthritis Centre of Excellence funded by Wellcome Trust and EPSRC, the Centre’s membership includes over 100 researchers across different technology and application themes, and represents a strong and diverse interdisciplinary collaboration of engineers, scientists and clinicians.

Msk Lab

The MSk Lab - Department of Surgery and Cancer

The MSk Lab is based at Charing Cross Hospital and comprises a team of over 30 full-time surgeons, physiotherapists, scientists and engineers all seeking to understand musculoskeletal health and degeneration and to prevent and treat a wide array of problems associated with impaired mobility.

The Biomechanics Group concentrates on improving our understanding of the function of the musculoskeletal system by pursuing a combination of goals in:

Experimental laboratory Work (in-vitro), Clinical Research in Hospitals (in-vivo) and Computational Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Modelling (in-silico)
