Souro completed his undergraduate and Master's education in Chemistry (first class) from the University of Manchester, where he conducted original research in organic chemistry within Professor David Procter's research group. Augmenting his core chemical training, Souro also acquired additional experiences in bioinformatics, working under the direction of Professor Dame Janet Thornton in Cambridge over the summer in 2017. He subsequently moved to Switzerland to work for a year for Hoffmann-La Roche (Roche AG) in Basel, where he gained first-hand experience in RNA Therapeutics drug discovery, working under the mentorship of Dr. Jörg Duschmalé. 

Souro moved to Imperial College London in 2019 on a President’s PhD Scholarship to join the Di Antonio group as a PhD student. His research project is on the chemical biology of quadruple helix DNA structures called G-quadruplexes, and investigating their role in ageing, and ageing-related diseases such as Motor Neuron Disease (ALS).
