Federica Raguseo

Federica

Federica is a first year PhD student between the Di Antonio and the Di Michele groups at Imperial College London. She graduated with an Msci in Chemistry from Imperial in 2020.

In order to further develop her synthetic chemistry skills, in 2017 Federica joined the finalists team for the Faculty of Natural Science Make a Difference competition where she was working on a new way of detecting tuberculosis by using molecularly imprinted polymers. In the summer of 2018 Federica was part of the Imperial team that scored third for the translation applications award at the international SensUs competion where she gained first-hand experience in working with biosensing techniques. Switching to a more chemical biology field, last summer she worked for 8 weeks in Prof Armstrong and Dr Mann’s lab on new chemical probes that covalently bind to Bruton’s tyrosine kinase.

Federica’s project in the Di Antonio and Di Michele groups will involve working on an engineered system to study the phase separation phenomenon of genetic material in cells.

Outside the research environment, Federica's passions are writing and swimming and this year she is Equipment Officer for the Imperial College Swimming and Waterpolo Club.
