About Me

I am a graduate student in the Department of Brain Sciences at Imperial College London. Prior to starting my PhD in the Nott lab, I completed both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Biotechnology at Hochschule Mannheim, University of Applied Sciences. During this time, I took the opportunity to gain research experience at the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT, the Centro de Investigaciones Biologicas, and most recently at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). Of all the knowledge I gained during this time, neurological questions and the application of single cell sequencing technologies excited me the most. For my PhD, I am particularly interested in applying the latest epigenome based single cell technologies to uncover the well-kept secrets of dementia.

Research Interests

During my last two years of studies I have been able to learn a lot about the developmental parallels between cancerous and healthy glial stem cells in the brain from a transcriptomics perspective. Whether it is the development of an organ or a tumor, everything can be traced back to specific genomic and transcriptomic programs that run in the background. Thanks to the rapid technological progress in the field of genomics and transcriptomics, also in connection with bioinformatics, our understanding of biological processes will change fundamentally. Impressed by the many possibilities this research area offers, I am interested in performing research that tries to answer brain disease related questions from the perspective of genomics and transcriptomics, with the focus on wet lab work but also with the chance to gain knowledge in bioinformatics.
