OPTIMAL CONTROL FOR LARGE-SCALE ION TRAP QUANTUM INFORMATION
Microfabricated segmented ion traps are a proven and effective platform for demonstrating quantum technologies. Selwyn works on the theory of quickly shuttling and separating ions in such traps, which is a necessary component of current proposals to build and demonstrate a scalable quantum computer. He works in collaboration with the experimental Ion Quantum Technology group at the University of Sussex which works extensively with these ion traps, with a view to designing experimental protocols that can be realised in the laboratory.
