Semiconductor Quantum Light Sources for Photonic Quantum Computing

Quantum bits or “qubits” can undergo interactions that give them different types of quantum correlations with varying “degree” of correlation between them. These correlations are typically useful for working with quantum computers, in the sense they can be used as a resource, i.e. the more correlations you have, the more quantum logic gates you can implement and thus the more computation you can then perform. Different types of correlations have different purposes and yet only a specific set of these correlations are of special interest to me, because I can manipulate these correlations to become the building blocks of a quantum computer.

My role revolves around using semiconductor devices to produce these special correlations for the grand goal of building a quantum computer. Most of my work is carried out in the Toshiba research laboratories in Cambridge, as this is a collaborative project between Imperial College London and Toshiba Research Europe Ltd.
