An elecrtrically polarized quantum degenerate gas
Cold polar molecules are desirable for a wide range of applications including ultracold chemistry, quantum information processing and the physics of quantum degenerate dipolar gases. Our experiment aims to produce cold polar molecules via sympathetic cooling. This involves overlapping the warmer molecules with much colder atoms. My project centres on producing and transporting this cloud of cold atoms. Once produced, the atoms can also be electrically polarised and used to study many-body quantum phases.
